Our Purpose is to love the Lord Jesus Christ with all our heart and with all our soul and with all our mind and with all our strength (Deut. 6:5;  Mark 12:30). We express this by making Jesus, Lord of life. We further express it by being obedient to all the Lord's commands in the Bible.

Since Jesus commissioned His people to make disciples of all nations, we seek to make Jesus known to every person so that they may come to know Him as Lord and Savior of their lives. All the ministries and services of the church are designed to express our love for the Lord first, and then our love for others as we love ourselves.

Our church began as Makakilo Baptist Chapel on May 3, 1964, as a mission of the First Baptist Church of Waipahu. The new work was begun by Mrs. Virginia Lake, a missionary under the Foreign Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention; and Mr. Lyle Pierce, who was employed at Barber’s Point Naval Air Station and later became the mission’s first pastor. On the first Sunday, there were 36 present for Sunday School classes.

On May 30, 1971, under the leadership of Pastor Raymond Lau, the mission was chartered as the Makakilo Baptist Church with 29 charter members. In May of 1975, the church body was blessed by God with its first church building. Rev. Lau was later called by University Avenue Baptist Church to pastor their church. So, in July of 1977, our church called Rev. Bruce Edwards from Georgia to become the church’s second full-time pastor. Pastor Edwards was later called to be the Associational Director of Missions (Oahu) in 1989.

On September 1, 1991, Ray & Lena Viliamu came to Makakilo in obedience to the call of God. The Lord has enabled the fellowship to grow deeper in personal relationships with Himself and with each other. The rainbow of various ethnic groups has made the family of God in Makakilo Baptist Church most unique. Only the Lord could have done it.

Since Ray's retirement in December of 2009, we now enter into a new chapter with our new pastor,Jon Elliff.  Jon and his wife, Becky, have accepted the call from the Lord to shepherd us!  We look forward to more great things that the Lord has in store for us!

Welcome to the family of God in Makakilo!
